Police Youth partnership Program (PYPP) is one of the noble initiatives commenced under the command of the former chief of Police(Uncle Chief) Brigader Kipchu Namghyel, in association with the youngsters of Bhutan. It's conducted during mid-term and end academic vacations, when schools get closed.
Basically, the program is helpful for the youths of Bhutan in making their vacations productive. Moreover it engageses youths to work in close association with Royal Bhutan Police to combate youth and other social issues.
Personally I felt motivated and acquired handson experiences having been part of the event. It was a moment to get in contact with new faces. We were 50 in number and handful of friends were already known to me.
The program started sometime at the end of December, 2010 continued for about two weeks. We were guided and supported by police personnels and officers.
I could still remember officers Dasho Karma Tshering ( SP), Major Sonam Tshering and Lectunient Dradul. Sadly I forgot one of the officers name, though he used be jolly and friendly with us.
We were taught about duties undertaken by Royal Bhutan Police. The types of crimes and level of penalties, traffic rules and regulations were also taught to us. At times we went for highway checkings. We were made to check the vehicle documents. I remember some of us fining drivers for not possessing driving documents. We had to relieve a driver as he was pleading. It is incredible to think about the incident now. We were not being so serious with our duties.
Perhaps I learnt the roles of police in harmonising the public in reality. Their duties are meant for the public wellfare.
Sometimes we went for night patrollings. other times we sensitized shopkeepers pertaining the sale of alcohol to young people and during restricted days.
we were also escorted to Punatsangchuu Hydropower sites and central jails as a part of filed visit.
It was really a memorable moment in my life to have worked in partnership with Royal Bhutan Police. Besides inculcating knowledge, I feel extremely humbled to have met wonderful people. We also had audience and photo session with uncle chief.
We had bonfire on New Year eve and picniced next day. The program was ended by awarding certificates and stipends.
